  • Ultra Compact Machine Folded Design
  • Lightweight and Versatile
  • Waterproof
  • Helps Retain Body Heat

This multi-pack of Silver Emergency Blankets will help make sure you have one for yourself and a few extras to share with family and friends. Machine folded, they are an ultra-compact 3″ by 4.5″ by 3/8″, but these individually packaged emergency blankets open up to a generous size of approximately 59″ by 87″. Most commonly used for emergency first aid and wilderness survival, these little wonders are capable of a multitude of other uses making them perfect for 72 hour and first aid kits! The blankets are a metalized plastic sheet, which can help prevent or treat hypothermia, act as a windbreaker, and can be worn as an emergency waterproof wrap. Importantly, their reflective property makes them easily seen from a distance, so use your blanket as an emergency signaling device. Since they reflect up to 90% of radiated body heat, they are also widely utilized in non-emergency situations as body wraps to keep athletes warm after a marathon or other sports activity. For these reasons, emergency blankets are indispensable and used by hikers, emergency response teams, and disaster agencies.

After going on a wilderness camping trip where I actually had to use a few mylar blankets in my first aid kit (which I never imagined I would actually use), I decided that for replacements, I would like a larger blanket. We had to fold the mylar blankets and use them like an improvised sleeping bag, and as a larger guy, the blanket I had been using was not large enough to wrap around my entire body and fold underneath me. We had a full day of torrential downpours while canoeing and portaging, and at the end of the day, nobody had a dry sleeping bag or pad. The overnight low was in the 30s and I was very comfortable using a mylar blanket (excepting condensation issues and being wet otherwise).

With some searching, this product seems to have the largest dimensions (short of going for an actual mylar sleeping bag or 2-person blanket). The price is right for a 10 pack, and gives me some spares to leave in my car, at the hunting shack, and plenty for my wilderness camping first aid kit.

The disadvantage of a pure mylar blanket is that they are very noisy. Some are plastic coated and it helps to insulate against noise. That being said, for a disposable product which you may or may not use, I wasn’t interested in paying the premium for a slight reduction in noise.

They are what they say they are.

    They are cheap Emergency Blankets.

They are very thin, individually wrapped, nice to throw a few in each vehicle and some in the camping gear.
They can be used in emergencies, better than nothing.
They can be used as a drop cloth, lay one down to stay dry, hang one to reflect heat, yes it does work.

Not for everyday use, rips easy when punctured, noisy, but for a few dollars for 10, handy in a pinch.
